Gearing up for our first test

Postby Chevguy65 » Apr 06 2010, 02:09

Hi,

I just wanted to give a quick update.

Mark Jones aka VortecPro has been working like a dog to get his 1968 Chevelle ready for this season and the series of tests we plan on doing.

These tests will be going through each of his engine builds and setting them into his car and making some passes at the track.

We will be discussing in depth what these engines go through from the time he gets the bare block and heads, on through the build, onto the dyno and finally in the car and at the track.

Keep in mind many of these passes will be done at his home track of Bandimere which is 5800' above sea level and the DA can reach over 8-9000'.
This even slows down those 8000+ hp top fuelers and funny cars.

The 68 will be full interior, roll cage, stock suspension car on 30x9" slicks.
It will have a th350/8" converter and posi rear end. (Stall and rear gear to be announced due to different engine combo's).

We will give you everything you need to see what goes into a build and how to make it run what it shows on the dyno.

Don't worry Mark,

you will see pics and videos of the 68.

I will get some pics of it now before any of the tested engines go into it.
Then pics with each engine installed, and then at the track with videos of it making passes.

It sounds like you guys have thought of everything. Who is going to be driving the car?

Jake...I volunteered but unfortunately the car is in Colorado and I am about 1000 miles from it.

You can count on seeing wheels up launches.
The engines range from 450 to over 720 hp.

Awesome Idea Guys, I have always had a love affair with 68 Chevelles as that was my first car, and as far as Mark goes, he has my vote as one of the most influential engine builders on the planet, yes there are tons of BBC builds out there but thru all the smoke and mirrors only ONE builder has gone on record as making power with the dreaded Peanut Port heads, that would be Mr.Mark Jones aka VortecPro.
In fact here 30 years after I broke my first HotRod and had to get it sleeved I am thinking about jumping back in and who cares about locker room envy... lol bring on the Peanuts!.....

Testing was delayed...I guess the chevelle being used as the test car had some wiring issues and had to be taken care of before it was let out.
I will check with Mark to find out if he is ready to resume this test or if it will happen this year.
I know it has been a long road and I was hoping to have had some good write-ups bu now.

:( Mark will not be testing this year.
The economy has put him to where he cannot afford to build his engines for test purposes. :(

I was hoping to get it done this year...maybe next year :( :( :(
