Your cars are extremely photogenic, Vince. They also do some of the best launches I've ever seen. Get the shots you want and let me know. Thanks, WC1

Over the last few days, I've been working up a new website layout for BP. I had this idea for the banner...it will change, as I will be required to fit it within certain parameters in order for it to fit across the top of the front page. I did a lot of Photoshopping on this picture. It's 6 pictures combined to make one. I just love The Hawaiian. Always did. I saw this car run here in 1966. I stood next to Mike Snively in the staging lanes when they were getting ready to make a run...he won the event, by the way...he had the silver fire suit and he was putting his gloves on. The Keith Black Chrysler Marine Hemi was incredibly powerful...but the car was no doubt "Show AND Go"...We didn't say anything to each other, but I thought the guy was as handsome as a goddamn movie star. Kinda made me uncomfortable but I couldn't walk away...He was larger than life and he was driving the baddest AA/FD around. Anyway, the Hawaiian has drifted into legend...it's in a museum in Turin, Italy now and there it will stay, acording to the Italian museum guys...it has a lot of wear and tear on it now...I had to jazz it up in layers to bring out the gorgeous paint job...got the engine from another shot of it at the '67 US Nationals, and the picture of Mike Snively is from another picture, as are the slicks, and the 3-part background...BP loves it, but like I say, it will change by the time it goes online. Enjoy! WC1

Today I drove down to Manvel (close to Alvin, Texas, home of Nolan Ryan) to hang out at Phantom Kruizer Mike's place with some Phantoms. Mike built a bar above his garage and it's great...pool table, restroom, full bar, PA system, a killer set of Sonor drums, great stereo, munchies, fridge, microwave, kitchen, etc...it's awesome. Decorated with hot rod memorabilia. I made Mike and Becky a special poster, combining a 1936 Chevy brochure and advertisement with Mike's '36 that he just had repainted. Had a great time over there, they're great folks. Pee Wee showed up with his wife and so did Brad and Linda in their '46 Dodge coupe. Wish I'd have brought the camera...we had 4 Kruizers out front. George, Mike's '36, Pee Wee's '56 Belair Post, and Brad's '46 Dodge...next time. What the heck. Anyway, here's the poster. Cheers, WC1

Over the last couple of days I've been developing front pages for some of a friend's URL acquisitions. There are 5 sub-sites to be made that will link to the main site, which I've also been asked to reconfigure. It's a new concept, but it's been fun...anyway, I made this by combining several pictures into one. It's got the dynamic, I just hope it floats as far as folks checking it out. It has a certain surreal vibe to it. It's of course, the Surfers vs. the Hawaiian, my two favorite slingshots of all time. The update will have some A/FXers dukin' it out in a couple of months. Enjoy! WC1

Thanks, Carl...I have completed 2 more front pages for sub-sites and I have one more in the works. These 2 have different methods; the first one, top alky, is an illustration that I drew on my computer using a program called Macromedia FreeHand MX. This particular program has since been bought by Adobe Illustrator and my next ugrade will be to acquire Illustrator. I don't draw as much as I used to, could be I'm lazy or something, but I've learned to use Photoshop either independently or in cahoots with FreeHand, sometimes the results are good, sometimes not. I have a mountain of outtakes for sure to back up that claim! Anyway, my buddy gave me web dragster to run as the moderator or whatever, and I decided to create a site that kind of drifts out of the normal drag racing fan site deal and take it into another dimension of reality. I've been crazy ever since I got my first whiff of nitro when I was 12 years old at a match race between Vance Hunt and Bobby Langley. Over the years I've gotten worse and something told me that there are others like me whose lives were changed and whose lenses were cracked by CH3NO2 and this will be a congregating of souls who have been swept up in drag racing as a way of perceiving life...Enjoy! Cheers, WC1
PS: The sites will be implemented some time in the next few months.

Thanks very much, guys. I just made a submission of the 4th of 4 front pages. At first I used a scan of a magazine cover with this picture on it, and my buddy said why dontcha draw it, man...no copyright problems, etc...I said good idea, but I didn't know it was gonna take almost a week to get done...smoke isn't easy to draw on a computer, ya know...I made it with layer upon layer upon layer, etc...transparencies and tints...the original picture was grainy and hard to see up close but I went ahead and took my time with it, I think it's in a finished enough state to send in. The Frantic 4 shot was one of my favorite drag racing pictures ever, so I enjoyed working on it...took me back to my model car daze, for sure. I miss the scent of TesTors glue and the slimy feel of a soggy decal ready to apply...anyway, here's the Frantic 4 wheelie. Enjoy! WC1

Thanks, Spib! This post gets into some detailed stuff...I thought it was important to show because it wasn't until early this morning that I realized the truth behind a 46-year-old trick (or it could have been a plain old mistake), so I figured it to be worthy of mention as I am sure there are others who have been as unaware as I was that this picture is wrong! It became a brain-teaser but I figured it out.

I've been working on this for a couple of weeks. Something kept bugging me about it...other than the little circular decal on the air foil up front next to the Valvoline decal that I couldn't figure out what it was, there was just something about the picture that was gnawing at me. Something was strange. Something wasn't quite right.

This morning when I woke up, it hit me like a lead pipe. On all of the pictures I'd seen of slingshot dragsters from the 60s, the steering mechanism comes out of the cowl and runs up to the front axle on the LEFT side of the car. This picture had that feature on the RIGHT side...it's backwards! I got online and double-checked everything at the Frantic 4 site and sure enough, the Car Craft cover from May 1964 has that picture "flopped"...reversed...a mirror image of the actual photograph. I've been looking at that picture since the day it was published and I never noticed it until this morning. I drew the whole thing that way, too.

I went back to my original drawing and flipped it over horizontally, then I took the decals I drew and flipped them over to the right side, and repositioned them so they fit properly in place on the corrected illustration. Now it's right...here are the images.

Cheers, WC1
